stillness speaks

stillness speaks

I walked in the dark nights,
in the forest of myriad thoughts & dreams,
searching..
waiting...
like a silent lamb,
      a barren tree,
              a deserted shanty...

I walked on in quest of my path,
I heard the wind,
I felt the earth,
I listened to the song of life..

and at dawn,
lying in the embrace of the dying night,
being caressed by the rays of rising sun,

 I found my road.........

waiting to be laid,
by the strokes of my hands.

stillness speaks: Earth Day

stillness speaks: Earth Day

Earth Day

I flew over the Yamuna river a few days back while returning back to Delhi, looking down I saw,

"Factory chimneys releasing black smoke, which was threatening to engulf the blue sky in it's dark embrace, the entire river was just a grey poisoned swamp oozing white froth....there were islands of weeds & algae across the river & sewers dumping sewage at various points in the river...there were heaps of  garbage adding beauty to this eyesore of a landscape"

In my journey I had also come across patches which were uninhabited, filled with thick dense forest and blue rivers criss crossing them, as I sat comparing the two sights mentally This thought crossed my mind,

"What have we done to this Earth?" I felt a pain deep within myself, in my soul, which I share from the living soul of this Earth, which is the mother of all of us living beings. I could see my self standing right in front of that bleeding hurt Mother of all souls, as she asked me "Why?" through her tears & pain. I could see the monster that Man has become, a heartless, greed driven, selfish, insane monster, in those eyes. Let us stop by a minute, to take a look at that monster & find the human being within.

Let us spare a minute to think all that we have taken from this Earth & what have we given it back in return?

Let us remember that This Planet is our only home, this Earth is our only source of the sustenance of life, which is so precious to us, The only place that gives it a meaning, The only place where we can enjoy all the comforts we are busy earning & creating,

"What if one day this planet, the Earth is no more? Where will we live? How will we exist? Who will you be?"

Think and make an effort to conserve water, trees, forest, animals, make the environment cleaner around you, save fuel & food, use electricity judiciously & Speak up if you find people doing wrong to this Earth, after all it's as much your home as theirs.

Join Hands, Come together, to heal this planet, which is our only home. And let us make this effort a part of our every day living, not just a formality to be observed or celebrated As a special day or occasion.

stillness speaks: Freedom

stillness speaks: Freedom

Freedom

I do not fear the fiery storm,
nor the thundering clouds,
neither the wrath of summer heat,
nor the cold winter breeze;

I do not fear peaks of obstacles,
that will lie along my way,
nor the cold waves of disappointment,
that shall drown me again & again.....

while this flower blooms,
filled with,
sweet nectar of hope in my heart,
as it dreams of soaring high,
          and flying to distant skies.

As my soul,
waits for the day,
it will be set free,

free from the worldly chains of,
                        fake ties,
                        endless lies,
                        faceless masks
from the cage of this pretentious human society,

Free to be what it wants to be,
free to live life,
the way it desires.

stillness speaks: My obsessive compulsive creative need

stillness speaks: My obsessive compulsive creative need

My obsessive compulsive creative need

This how my parents describe my sudden creative outbursts....I have been trying to put in words the force that drives me to these spurts, the effort led to this post...

There are days when I feel trapped in a web that traps my creative energy, limits my creative vision & pulls my creative urge into a meaningless bottomless darkness...I. dread these days & am more scared of getting trapped in this web than, I'd be of failure or disappointment or even death....'cuz when at the end of such days I manage to break through the web & walk back into the world of my creativity, I feel life running through me, rejuvenating me. It's like I have been given another chance to live, another chance to celebrate the existence of my being, by leaving behind my writings, pictures, sketches, collages, dances...so that even when I cease to be, people can see through my eyes the world as I lived in, the world of who I was, the world I loved, the world I wished for in these works. The world that was mine.

stillness speaks: Health is Wealth

stillness speaks: Health is Wealth

Health is Wealth

The caption has never been more true, than in our present day world, where cost of medical services are sky high.

The more time you invest in keep yourself healthy, the more money & time you are saving, this adds to your work efficiency & productivity & ultimately your earnings.

Considering the hectic work schedules and family concerns that we live with in the modern day world, it is a tough job to find some time, howsoever little for ourselves, our body and our health. It is easy for us as doctors to advise a Patient about eating healthy food, sleeping, exercising & lifestyle management, But to actually put these advices into actions, is a challenge that is faced not just by common man but even us doctors.

Solution : We have to customize taking care of our health according to our needs, work schedules and the needs of our body, but we really need to spend some time to give our body what it needs.

Why? : Because like every other machine in the world, Human body is also a machine, Albeit the most complicated machine yet, so complicated that we are still to completely understand its working. And thus like every machine Our body also undergoes wear & tear. We all get our cars serviced regularly so that it functions well & remains in shape. For the very same reason we need to get our body serviced regularly so that it remains fit & in shape even after 70 or so years of our having abused it like anything for the purpose of living.

How? : By incorporating these simple steps in our lifestyle as per our convenience -

  • Healthy Eating habits - Eating regular meals, which contain fruits, vegetables, fibers, pulses, milk & curd. Avoid eating fried & oily food & sweets. Packaged snacks like chips & Soft drinks. Too much salt or spices.Instead of consuming soft drinks trying drinking natural drinks like fruit juices, Nimbu pani, coconut water. Drink plenty of water.

  • Exercise - Take out little time, 20 mins/ 30 mins every day or atleast 5 days a week for brisk exercise like brisk walking, jogging, cycling, dancing or playing sports like badminton, swimming. Begin slowly & then progressively increase the duration & amount of exercise. Kindly take advice from your medical consultant before beginning any exercise schedule in case you have ny known medical illness or are elderly, so that you exercise as per the needs of your body.
(Often People have a misconception that if they are exercising, they can go easy on the oils, fats & sweets in their diet. This is a wrong notion. Exercise has to be supplemented with healthy eating habits for a good health)

  • Sleep - A sound and adequate sleep is must for our body. This is the toughest to achieve. Try as much as you can to get atleast 6-7 hrs of sleep if not more daily or as often as you can. Because a good sleep is essential for our body & mind to get rest & recover it's strength. Increasing accumulation of sleep lag decreases not just work productivity but make people more cranky, irritated & prone to other mistakes.

  • Avoid (Infact say absolute no) - Alcohol, smoking, eating tobacco & drugs. Donot take unnecessary nutritional supplements on your own (some of these supplements can be harmful, so always consult a doctor before starting with them) to compensate for inability to maintain a healthy diet.

  • Inculcate good habits like sitting & reading in the correct posture, washing teeth before going to sleep, washing hands with soap before eating, bathing daily, keeping small nails, using tissues to clean nose & cleaning ears regularly. (Some of you might laugh these off as primary school lessons, but trust me most of us donot follow these basic & simple precautions which can save us from many disease.)
PS :- This is just a minimal outline of what we should do to Keep ourselves healthy. The basic ABC's that can help you keep your body in shape. This does not mean that you can avoid medical opinion for illness or when your body is not fit.
